PHOTOS: Large hail damages homes, cars across Pikes Peak region

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Strong thunderstorms developed in the Pikes Peak Region early Wednesday morning, dropping hailstones up to the size of tennis balls in some parts of southern Colorado Springs to Fountain.

Residents are waking up to blown out windows in homes and cars, holes in siding, roof damage, dents to vehicles and tree branches down.

The strongest storm formed over Fountain and was nearly stationary for two hours, dropping around two inches of rain in addition to the large hail.

The storm was stationary as low level moisture flowing westward interacted with Cheyenne Mountain, creating a nearly steady-state storm between midnight and 2:15 am.
