DARKE COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) — A road in Darke County was closed for several hours after a fatal crash on Thursday morning.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to U.S. Route 127 and Hunter Road on an injury crash around 5:48 a.m. on Nov. 9.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2013 GMC Acadia was traveling northbound on US-127 near Hunter Route when the car went left of center. The Acadia struck a semi traveling southbound on US-127 before traveling off of the right side of the road into a ditch.
The semi also came to rest in a ditch on the other side of the road. The semi driver was treated for injuries and released at the scene.
While in the ditch, the Acadia became fully engulfed in flames. When deputies arrived, the driver was pronounced dead on scene.
U.S. Route 127 was closed for around 8 hours between Hunter Road and Horatio-Harris Creek Road.
Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio State Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement, Environmental Protection Agency, Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team and Darke County Coroner’s Office Investigator also responded to the crash.
This crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office.
