COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) – State representative Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg) proposed a bill to expand a current tax holiday and start a new one.
Antani proposed legislation to expand the school sales tax holiday in August to increase the amount of clothing and supplies tax exempt from $75 to $100. It would increase the exemption for school instructional materials from $20 to $100.
With more technology in the classroom, the bill would allow for tablets and laptops valued up to $2000 to be included in the sales tax holiday.
“The back to school tax holiday has proven to be effective,” Antani said in a press release. “(It) should be expanded to hellp familes, particularly with the inclusion of laptops, tablets and graphing calculators.”
Antani and State Rep Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) introduced a second bill to create a spring tax holiday in March to exempt Energy Star appliance products from sales tax.
