DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s basketball team closed out their two-game home stand Saturday by defeating Duquesne by a score of 68-64. The Flyers are now 15-7 (7-2 A-10) this season, while Duquesne falls to 15-7 (6-3 A-10).
The Flyers were led by Obi Toppin scoring a career-high 26 points while going 11-16 shooting.  Toppin was joined in double figures by Jalen Crutcher, who had 16 points and four assists.  Dayton hit their first five 3-pointers in the second half en route to a 14-point comeback win.


1st Half: Duquesne 36, Dayton 28

    Dayton started the game with four points in the first four minutes, all of them off of offensive rebounds.
    Neither team had more than a 3-point lead through the first 10 minutes.
    Duquesne went on a 8-0 scoring run to take a 23-15 point lead with 7:37 left in the half.
    The Flyers were without a field for six minutes of gameplay, missing nine straight shots during that stretch.
    A turnover off an inbound pass led to a Duquesne 3-pointer to give them a 32-18 lead with 4:07 left, its largest lead of the half.
    Obi Toppin led the Flyers with 12 points in the first half while shooting 5-7.
    The Flyers shot 11-20 (55%) from inside the arc, but went 0-8 on 3-pointers in the first half.

2nd Half: Dayton 68, Duquesne: 64

    Back to back dunks by Obi Toppin brought the score to 41-34 and forced a Duquesne timeout with 15:48 left.
    A Dwayne Cohill three, Dayton’s first of the game, brought the Flyers to within six with 13:14 left.
    Back to back buckets by Jalen Crutcher and Obi Toppin trimmed the lead to just one with 10:56.
    A Jordan Davis three gave Dayton their first lead of the second half at 50-48 at the 10:18 mark.
    After starting 0-9 from three UD hit five straight in the second half.
    A made jumper by Jalen Crutcher gave Dayton a 66-64 lead with 1:39.
    Jordan Davis made a game sealing steal with .6 seconds left and made a free throw after being fouled to complete the 68-64 win.


    This was Josh Cunningham’s third straight game with 10 or more rebounds.
    Obi Toppin recorded 20 or more points for the fifth time this season.
    Dayton had 32 bench points compared to Duquesne’s two.
    Obi Toppin recorded his career high in points with 26.
    The Flyers made 56% of their shots in the second half and held Duquesne to 33%.
    All of Dwayne Cohill’s points were in the second half
    28 of Dayton’s final 38 points came from Jalen Crutcher and Obi Toppin
     This was the third win in A-10 play that UD came back from a second-half double-digit deficit.


·        The Flyers are in action again this Tuesday for a road date with Saint Louis at 9 p.m. (ET).

·        Dayton also plays at Rhode Island on Feb. 9.

·        The next game at UD Arena will be two weeks from today against VCU.
