DAYTON, Ohio – Three Burlington pitchers combined to allow just five hits as the Bees defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-1 on Saturday night.  A crowd of 8,297 was in attendance at Fifth Third Field as the Bees completed a sweep of the three-game series.  The Dragons completed a six-game home stand with a record of 2-4 and saw their full-season record fall to 12-23.

The game was scoreless until Burlington scored one run in the fifth inning and two more in the top of the sixth.  The Dragons scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth when Pabel Manzanero doubled off the left field fence to bring in Mariel Bautista from third.  But Dayton could not capitalize on their opportunities as they went 1 for 11 with men in scoring position and stranded nine runners.

The Dragons best chance to create a comeback came in the seventh inning.  They put runners at first and third with one out, getting a pair of singles from Carlos Rivero and Shard Munroe.  But Dylan Harris struck out and Munroe was thrown out trying to steal second on the same play to complete an inning-ending double play.

Burlington pitchers combined to notch 17 strikeouts.  Starting pitcher Cristopher Molina worked five and one-third innings, allowing one unearned run.  He walked one and struck out nine to earn the win.  Molina did not allow a hit until Juan Martinez singled with one out in the fifth.

Dragons starting pitcher Lyon Richardson (0-4) pitched well but was charged with the loss.  He struck out seven batters over four and one-third innings, allowing just one run on four hits, walking two.

The Dragons struggled to score runs on the home stand.  They were shut out in two of the six games and averaged less than six hits per game.  Rivero led the attack on Saturday, going 2 for 4.  Manzanero’s run-scoring double was the only extra base hit.

The Dragons were swept in a home series for the first time since they lost three straight games to Peoria at Fifth Third Field, May 10-12, 2018.

Notes:  Reliever Adrian Rodriguez was promoted to Dayton from extended spring training on Saturday, while starting pitcher Jhon De Jesus was placed on the disabled list with a leg injury.  Martinez started the season with the Dragons before being sent back to Goodyear, Arizona on April 24.  Alexis Diaz will move from the bullpen into the starting rotation to replace De Jesus and pitch on Wednesday at Great Lakes.

Up Next:  The Dragons (12-23) do not play on Sunday.  They will open a seven-game road trip with three games in Midland, Michigan against the Great Lakes Loons on Monday at 6:05 p.m.  Jared Solomon (0-2, 4.07) will start for Dayton.  Great Lakes will open the series on Monday after four consecutive off-days.  Their entire series at Quad Cities was canceled due to flooding in the Davenport, Iowa area.
