Office Sought: Ohio Auditor of State

Why should you be elected?
Ohio’s political system has become corrupted by the influence of money and by political self-interest. Pay-for-play deals rule the General Assembly and incumbent politicians gerrymander their seats to diminish political competition. These sinister actions cause ordinary Ohioans to lose faith in their government.
As Auditor of State, I can do something to reverse these trends. I intend to shine a light on the corrupting influence of money in politics by calling out politicians who put wealthy special interests above their constituents. The Auditor also sits on the Redistricting Commission, and in 2021 will help redraw legislative maps. I have pledged to use my position, if elected, to end partisan gerrymandering by creating as many competitive districts as possible.
I will use the powers of this office dynamically and aggressively to protect taxpayer dollars and to give Ohioans a reason to believe in their democracy.
Top Three Priorities:
I will shine a light on the corrupting influence of money in politics, serving as a vocal watchdog over taxpayer dollars and calling out bad actors who seek to abuse their power.
I will work to end partisan gerrymandering as a member of the Redistricting Commission, which will redraw Ohio’s legislative districts in 2021. I will use my role on that Commission to draw as many competitive districts as possible, and not to gerrymander in favor of the Democratic or Republican Party.
Finally, I will use the Performance Audit powers of the Auditor’s office to investigate where taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely, and where improvements must be made.
Zack Space was born and raised in the small eastern Ohio town of Dover. After graduating from law school at The Ohio State University, he returned to Dover and practiced law for nearly 20 years, during which time he served as a Public Defender and as Dover’s City Law Director. In 2006, he was elected to serve as the Congressman from Ohio’s 18th District, comprising 16 counties in rural southeastern Ohio.
During his tenure in Congress, Zack was a champion of working-class Ohioans and was instrumental in bringing broadband technology, employment opportunities, and infrastructure improvements to his district. Upon leaving Congress in 2011, Zack joined the prestigious Columbus law firm Vorys, Sater, Seymour, and Pease where he worked with local governments, charitable organizations, and the private sector to promote economic development across Ohio.
Zack is running to become Ohio’s next Auditor of State, where he will use the broad power of the office to deliver much-needed reform to state government. Zack is committed to shining a light on the corruptive influence of money in politics, ending extreme partisan gerrymandering, and serving as a watchdog for hardworking Ohio families.
