Why should you be elected?

Our political system is broken. I have the record of experience and independence that Ohio needs in an Attorney General now more than ever. I believe that no one is above the law and, as Ohio Attorney General, I will work to fix this broken system by standing up to politicians in both parties and using my experience as a career prosecutor to protect Ohio from violent crime and public corruption.

My more than two decades as a federal prosecutor including as the US Attorney of the Northern District of Ohio as well as a civil rights attorney have prepared me to take on our broken political system and protect every Ohioan. As a prosecutor I’ve taken on tough cases and won major convictions in cases involving terrorism, public corruption, fraud, gun violence, heroin trafficking, financial fraud and hate crimes. As US Attorney, I developed and implemented successful programs in the fight against the opioid crisis that have been used as a national model in major United States cities including in Cincinnati.

As AG, I will fight to hold the most powerful accountable and protect the most vulnerable. Nothing matters more than protecting Ohio.

Top Three Priorities:

My priorities as Attorney General include fighting Ohio’s opioid crisis, strengthening our response to human trafficking, and cracking down on the rampant culture of corruption in our Statehouse. I will tackle the opioid crisis head-on by going after pharmaceutical companies who flooded our communities with addictive pills and will make them pay for treatment. I’ll also work to improve enforcement, prevention and treatment by implementing a multi-faceted approach.

I will aggressively prosecute human traffickers for carrying out this heinous crime. My plan will make sure law enforcement has the tools they need to stop traffickers, give prosecutors new tools to send criminals to jail, and give victims the support they need to begin to rebuild their lives.

As a federal prosecutor who has put away Democrats and Republicans, trust me when I say I haven’t seen a more broken system than we have in Columbus right now. On day one, I will conduct a top-to-bottom review of Ohio’s corruption laws to put a stop to the pay-to-play culture running rampant in our Statehouse. It’s time to put Ohioans first, and stop letting special interest donors call the shots in our government.

Steve Dettelbach believes no one is above the law, no one is below the law and no one is beyond its reach.

Born and raised in Ohio, Steve has stood before judges and juries to take on the tough cases and prosecute some of the worst criminals Ohio has ever seen. As a federal prosecutor for more than 20 years, Steve put child abusers, drug dealers, and human traffickers in jail, and he secured convictions against both Democrats and Republicans who broke the law.

A husband and father of two, Steve launched his campaign for Ohio Attorney General in the summer of 2017 after traveling Ohio for months and visiting places as diverse as Cleveland’s African American churches and Appalachia’s union halls.

Across these very different communities, hundreds of miles apart, Steve heard a very similar theme from the people he spoke with — the belief that politicians have rigged the system to benefit themselves and powerful special interests. It is this broken system that Steve will work to fix as Ohio Attorney General by working to end political corruption in both parties and making sure everyone is held accountable whether that means violent criminals, drug traffickers, crooked CEOs or corrupt politicians. No one is above the law.
