Wright State University accepting applications for next president

FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) – Wright State University is now accepting applications for its next president.

The presidential search committee has spent months gathering feedback from staff and students to create a presidential profile–which outlines the qualifications and experience they’re looking for in their next president.

The profile calls for a president whose agenda revolves around financial stability, administrative transparency and campus conversation. President David Hopkins is retiring in June.

Right now the school is going through a massive budget crisis which has forced it to cut $19 million in spending. Much of the new presidential profile was created from survey responses received from more than 2,500 people in the community.

They’re now advertising the position and recruiting some candidates directly.

Search committee chair Doug Fecher says getting community input is vital to finding the right person.

“There was nothing more important than listening to the University community about what would best serve Wright State University moving into the future,” Fecher said. “We wanted to really spend a lot of time on it and I think we accomplished that goal.”

The committee is accepting applications through December 5th. It expects to have a final decision by April 2017.
