WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A woman who lost everything she owns in a house fire is getting help from some young hands.

The moment the 4th graders of Girl Scout Troop 30759 found out Barbara Dolan had lost her home, they knew what they had to do.

“She lost everything,” said Alaura Ibaugh, 10. “She lost 75 years of pictures and she lost most her jewelry.”

During a meeting, the girls learned of what happened to Dolan’s home. Dolan is the great-grandmother of one of the troops.

The troop then did something that left the parents speechless. Instead of using their reward money for selling cookies on a spa day for the troop, they decided to use the money to help Dolan get back on her feet.

“It’s amazing,” said Dana Dickson, the leader of the troop. “I don’t think any of us were dry-eyed, honestly. They’re one of the most fantastic groups of kids I’ve ever had the luck to be involved with.”

More than $500 was given to Dolan on Monday night. The girls surprised her at a family member’s home.

“She was really surprised and I loved it,” said Hannah Pittenger, 10. “It was a special feeling.”

Dolan’s family was moved by the gesture.

“For a group of young girls that age, it’s hard for them to grasp the concept of what just happened,” said Bonnie Wright, Dolan’s granddaughter. “For them to give up something that meant so much to them for a complete stranger, it’s just mind-blowing.”

Tuesday night, they made sure the troop’s generosity was rewarded.

Wright called around to beauty spas in the area. She surprised the girls with a free spa day for their kindness. Wright said Fab Kid Spa Party Boutique out of Vandalia is donating their services after learning about what happened.

Family members of Dolan’s said her home caught fire after an electrical short in the wire of her lamp.

One family member was inside the home and suffered third degree burns after trying to escape the flames. Dolan was not home at the time.

If you would like to help Dolan, the scouts have set up a fundraiser. You can find it by clicking here for the GoFundMe web page.
