Weather impacts start of Air Force Marathon

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (WDTN) — Weather delayed the start of the 20th annual Air Force Marathon Saturday.

The full marathon was supposed to kick off at 7:30 a.m. but was delayed 30 minutes by a lightning strike. More than 15,000 runners from all over the country were taking part in Saturday’s event.

Friday, more than 2,500 runners hit the pavement for the 10th Annual 5K race.

The Air Force Marathon draws tens of thousands of people every year to the Fairborn area and pumps millions of dollars into the economy. Last year’s race brought in more than $14 million dollars to the local economy.
