Warped Wing building momentum with nearby condos

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A local brewery celebrates their third anniversary this weekend.

Joe Waizmann, President of Warped Wing Brewing Company, says the community’s support has been vital in their success.

“We’ve been very fortunate. We have outstanding staff, and we’re producing some pretty good beer,” he said.

The brewery has been open for three years; however, it didn’t take long for owners to know growth was in the forecast.

“We outgrew it in our first six months of operation. We anticipated it happening, but maybe not that swiftly.”

Waizmann says they bought an off-site distribution facility to handle most of their orders.

Outside the brewery, most may notice a significant difference in parking.

A new condominium complex is being built on Jefferson St. in front of the brewery. Waizmann says it won’t impact their view.

“Folks that are directly across the street from us, I have to think that a fair number will want to come in and frequent our establishment.” The parking lot originally on this plot of land was leased to Dayton Metro Library, then sold.

Waizmann says business is still buzzing. “It’s less of an issue than I originally thought.”

The Dayton Metro Library and the community have been supportive of the brewery–helping with overflow parking.

It might be needed. As growth has been steady over the past three years.

“We’re in some discussions to see what it might take to be able to control our destiny and see what it takes to explore this property or any property downtown.” Waizmann says that’s still years down the road.

Warped Wing celebrated their third anniversary on Saturday. Waizmann says the bash will begin at noon, and features rare beers, and live bands.
