Volunteers needed for Dayton veteran burial honor ceremonies

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton National Cemetery Support Committee is searching for volunteers to be on the Honor Squad Team.

The squad will accept civilians as well as military veterans. Uniforms for the duty — as well as training for the job are provided to the volunteers for free.

The group says its membership is down and are expecting more veterans in need of proper burial in the coming days.

Volunteers will learn how to march and load and fire the weapons, as well as folding the flag and presenting it properly to the family of the fallen soldier.

Those interested will be asked to accept a duty assignment for the day and will be asked to follow through with that assignment regardless of other issues, including whether.

If you or someone you know is interested, you can contact the Honor Squad via Jim Groves at 937-293-0911 or 937-620-3647, or visit the organization’s website.
