Witnesses told 2 NEWS Caldwell’s children ran to a nearby Bob Evans restaurant for help after a man opened fire on their father. Investigators would not release the ages of the children.
The gunman took off running, according to Major Matt Sturgeon with Riverside PD, “We have a white male, middle-age that fled on foot with the silver handgun. We do believe we’re going to have some security footage coming in, in the near future, that if we can, we will attempt to released as soon as possible and that’s acceptable to the case, but as of right now we’re just going to do our jobs. We have a pretty good handle on what’s going on.”
Investigators would not say what led up to the shooting or what Caldwell was doing in the parking lot during the time of the shooting. Sturgeon told 2 NEWS “There could be multiple people involved,” and “there are a lot of leads we are following.”
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Riverside Police.
The three children were released into the care of children services.
