(NBC News) Three people are dead after a car exploded in downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania Saturday.

The exact cause is not known but investigators have labeled the blast a “criminal incident.”

The explosion could be heard and felt all over Allentown.

“I heard like some type of explosion and my building kind of like shook,” one resident said.

The blast happened around 9:30 p.m.

Anthony Sealy saw a ball of fire. “The car was still moving, you know, when it blew up, you know what I’m saying, because it was still traveling, it was still rolling and then it just burst into flames while it was still going,” he said.

The scene was quickly blocked off and a “shelter in place order” was issued.

Federal and state authorities have joined local police in the investigation.

The county coroner says three people, all men, were killed and authorities are now working to identify them. Investigators suspect the man responsible was among the deceased.
