(NBC News) President Trump sounded off Friday on two former members of his inner circle, Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen.
Both are headed to prison soon, which raises the question of possible presidential pardons, but the two men are getting very different reactions from their former boss.
President Trump slammed his one-time attorney Cohen, saying Cohen lied to Congress when he said he’d never asked for a pardon.
“It’s a stone cold lie, and he’s lied about a lot of things. But when he lied about the pardon, that was really a lie,” Mr. Trump said.
Even Cohen’s attorney contradicted the claim made before Congress last week, saying the legal team did explore the possibility of a pardon.
Meanwhile, President Trump has not ruled out a pardon for Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman, who was sentenced Thursday to less than four years in prison on bank and tax fraud.
