Men apologize after forcing older man to strip on Facebook Live in freezing temps

U.S. & World

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two men approached an older man at a 7-Eleven early Thursday morning and forced him to take off his clothes in freezing temperatures, all while taking a Facebook Live video.

Now, they’re apologizing.

“Hurry up, I want that jacket, I need those pants too, give me those pants,” one of them yelled at the older man in the video.

The two men can be heard laughing and terrorizing the man as he strips off his clothing until he is left in his underwear in 18-degree weather.

Employees at the 7-Eleven off Jefferson Avenue and 74th Street in Newport News say it happened outside the convenience store around 4 a.m. on Thursday.

A manager at the store says the victim tends to hang around the area and is believed to have mental health issues.

WAVY found the two men in the video and confronted them. Hampton residents Charles Mckoy and Heath Williams saying they’re taking full responsibility.

“It was very childish and, like I said, I’m sorry and I’m willing to do what it takes to make up for it,” said Mckoy.

“I truly apologize and I’m sincere about this from the bottom of my heart,” added Williams.

Williams said they recorded the video while they were drunk after leaving a club. He says they got the idea for the prank from YouTube, but when they sobered up, they realized how wrong they were.

“Hopefully I get to see him personally and he can see the remorse, personally, from me himself,” stated Mckoy.

The two men say this incident was out of character and have been trying to find the man to make things right.

“We have bags of clothes in the trunk for him. We even went to where he lives, but no one answered the door. We called. No one picked the phone up,” Williams explained.

Newport News Police say they are looking into this matter, and the video has since been deleted from Facebook.
