Man breaks world record after planking for more than 10 hours

U.S. & World

CHICAGO (WFLA/WCMH) – An Illinois man set a new world record for the longest planking session after holding the abdominal plank position for more than 10 hours.

WLS reports George Hood planked for ten hours and ten minutes at YMCA in suburban Chicago, beating the old record by two hours.

Planking is an activity where people lie face down and hold up their bodies using just their elbows and feet. The exercise is designed to strengthen the core muscles.

According to WLS, Hood planked to raise money for a program that helps Chicago youth who have been exposed to violence.

Hood is no stranger to holding a world record. According to NBC San Diego, the 60-year-old Marine Corps veteran and fitness instructor also set the world record for planking in 2015 and 2016.
