PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) - A New Mexico rancher is accused of stealing scholarship money from Miss New Mexico contestants.
The Attorney General's Office recently seized documents and computer files from 55-year-old Greg Smith's home just outside of Portales.
A special investigator says Smith has been using his position as the Executive Director of the "Miss New Mexico Scholarship Organization," to steal payments from contestants.
He is also accused of using the money for his ranch business.
The investigator says the outstanding scholarship funds are estimated at more than $54,000.
The office of the AG says the investigation is still ongoing and charges have yet to be filed.
