Holiday tech purchases on the rise

U.S. & World

(NBC) – Whether it’s in a physical shopping cart or a digital one, the Consumer Technology Association expects Americans will be buying more gadgets at checkout.

Suzanne Kantra of Techlicious says, “This year we’ll see record breaking sales for tech, estimated $96.1 billion in sales.”

With retailers already starting to launch holiday promotions, it can be hard to know when you’ll get the best price.

Lindsey Turrentine of CNet says, “It wont hurt you at all to start looking now. Most of the big deals will start the Saturday after Thanksgiving.”

The tech at the top of holiday wishlists are TV’s, laptops and smartphones. To find the best phone deal, look beyond the manufacturer.

Says Turrentine, “Look for a phone from someone you might not expect. So, instead of going straight to the manufacturer, try a carrier or secondary source.”

Get two for one with “BOGO” deals expected from carriers or cash in with retailers like Target offering hefty gift card promotions with certain smartphones.

The CTA predicts consumers will buy 22 million smart speakers this quarter, 44 percent more than last year. Expect to see half price deals for the Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo Dot.

And for those who already have a smart speaker, Kantra says, “Nearly 25% of people will be using voice and voice assistants to research products and look for deals.”

A very meta holiday, using tech to shop for tech.

Smartwatches and wireless headphones are two other big sellers expected over the holiday season.
