(WGAL/NBC News) A popular DJ has been arrested in connection with the 1992 murder of a Pennsylvania school teacher.

Raymond Rowe, 49, is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 25-year-old Christy Mirack. Rowe, who is known professionally as DJ Freez, was arrested without incident Monday at his home.

“He’s been free longer than she lived her entire life,” Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman said. “It’s so disturbing. You have a truly innocent victim. Her entire life was ahead of her.”

During a press conference, Stedman said Rowe became a suspect after a genotype file created from DNA at the crime scene was compared to genetic information in a genealogy database. There were matches to relatives of Rowe’s, Stedman said.

Mirack was beaten, strangled and sexually assaulted in her East Lampeter Township home in December 1992. She was a 6th-grade teacher in the Hempfield School District.

Stedman said undercover state troopers attended a function in May where Rowe had been hired as a DJ, and they obtained a water bottle and piece of chewing gum he had used. According to Stedman, DNA from those items was matched to DNA on the carpet at the scene where Mirack was found, as well as DNA found on Mirack’s body.
