Divers recover prosthetic leg lost in Hudson River

(WNYT) A Corinth, New York man has been reunited with the prosthetic leg he lost while jet-skiing last week.

“I had a slight heart attack, pretty much the best way to describe it was, losing the leg the second time was much worse said Dillon Wilson.

Wilson lost his leg to an infection after a motorcycle accident in 2015. He has since been wearing a prosthetic leg but that all changed on Thursday. Wilson was jet skiing on the Hudson River near his home when his prosthetic leg fell off his jet ski and slipped into the water without him knowing. After placing a call for help emergency responders immediately arrived and dove in to the water.

“We were basically told where it was dropped off, we dove there on several occasions to train and we thought we had a chance,” said Chief Andy Kelley of Corinth Fire Department.

The dive team, composed of 11 local volunteer divers was unsuccessful on their first attempt Thursday, so they went back again on Friday afternoon, still with no luck. As time began to pass Wilson started to lose hope that it would never return.

“It was like at one time I saw my life fall apart and this was the second time because I knew once it was gone I wouldn’t be able to get another one” said Wilson.
