DAVIS, California (NBC) — A California police officer has died after bei shot Thursday night while responding to a crash.
22-year-old Natalie Corona was taken to a UC-Davis hospital in critical condition. She later died at the hospital.
Police say Corona had been on the job for only a few weeks.
“I haven’t seen anybody work harder in a part time capacity and be more motivated to be a police officer than Natalie,” Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel said. “She is just an absolute star in our department.”
Police say officers found the body of the suspect in a Davis home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
