GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are trying to capture a black bear that was spotted roaming around Grand Rapids Thursday morning.
The Grand Rapids Police Department said that a black bear was spotted in a tree on Dayton Street between Straight and Deloney avenues on the West Side.
Crews from the Kent County Animal Control, John Ball Zoo and Michigan Department of Natural Resources are on scene to help capture the bear. Authorities said the bear is wild and not from the zoo.
Police told 24 Hour News 8 that officers met with zoo officials Wednesday to discuss scenarios if an animal was to get loose.
