There are many tall tales about buying flights.
Cheap-air-dot-com crunched the numbers for its 2018 annual airfare study and found no real difference when you *buy the flight. Meaning you can find a deal any day of the week.
But there is a difference *when you fly. You’ll find cheaper flights if you travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
The most expensive day of the week to fly is Sunday. Opting for a Wednesday flight over a Sunday one will save you, on average, $76 per ticket.
The study looked at 917 million airfares in more than 8,000 markets and found that for one trip the price went down, on average, 62 times. That’s roughly every five days the fare changed by an average of 36 bucks.
Another finding, last year the best time, on average, to buy a flight was 70 days in advance.
The study’s authors note that fares are flexible, so track fares and buy between three weeks and four months before your flight to score the best deal.
