DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – American drivers now spend an additional 20 minutes driving every week compared to 2014.
New data from AAA finds that Americans spend 70 billion hours behind the wheel each year, an increase of 8 percent since 2014.
Additionally, older drivers are changing their habits. Drivers 75 and older spent 23 percent more time on the road.
“Seniors, drivers, are in the car more often, living longer, healthier lives. The ‘Silver Tsunami’ is happening – we have 10,000 seniors every day who are turning 65,” says Kara Hitchens, Senior Specialist with AAA.
Experts say lower gas prices and aging infrastructure are factors contributing to more time driving.
