WASHINGTON (AP/NBC News) — President-elect Donald Trump has made another cabinet pick, announcing the selection of former Texas Gov. Rick Perry as Secretary of Energy.
Perry was a campaign rival and vocal critic of Trump during the election.
Trump released a statement on Wednesday, saying “As the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry created a business climate that produced millions of new jobs and lower energy prices in his state, and he will bring that same approach to our entire country as Secretary of Energy.”
“Rick Perry is going to do an amazing job.”
Perry released a statement, saying “It is a tremendous honor to be selected.”
“I am deeply humbled by his trust in me.”
Perry added that he looks forward to “promoting an American energy policy that creates jobs and puts America first.”
He ran for President in 2016 and 2012.
