Trotwood welcomes 24 new businesses in 12 months

TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – New businesses are opening in Trotwood, bringing dozens of jobs to the area. Over the last year, 24 businesses have opened up shop in Trotwood, adding to their growing economy.

Economic Development Director Fred Burkhardt says the recent progress is foreseeing of a bright future.

“The reception we’re getting for new businesses,” Burkhardt said. “Who are inquiring and locating here have been very positive.”

And it’s showing in the numbers. Trotwood Economic Development Director Fred Burkhardt says in 2 years about 200 jobs have been added.

Since Burkhardt took the job four months ago, he’s been focusing on 5 project areas. 3 on Salem Avenue. That’s where Arena Sports Bar and Grill opened 3 months ago.

“We’re doing pretty well being a new business,” Owner Carl Johnson said. “We’re excited about the future.”

Owner Carl Johnson–along with his business partners–own 11 other businesses in the area. After a handful of major corporations left the city, he says Trotwood is headed in a new direction and that’s why this location was the best fit.

“We think the community here in Trotwood really deserve to have a nice bar and grill out this way,” Johnson said. “Where family and friends can come in and gather.”

Along with Arena opening, is Korrect Plumbing who’s moving to their new facility in Trotwood, carrying more than 50 jobs with them.

“Our existing location has restricted us from hiring more people just because we haven’t had the expansion room on our office side for our inside employees,” Patterson said. “And when we have more employees on the inside that allows us to grow a larger work force.”

Patterson–who’s grown up in Trotwood–says he has no plans of leaving.

“There’s a since of pride for me for living in the area,” Patterson said. “It makes me feel good when we can help the community and support Trotwood. They’ve been great in this process.”
