TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) –  Officials have identified the teen who drowned in Trotwood.

Th eMontgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed Travis Williams, 15, was recovered from Madison Lakes Park.

Emergency crews were called to the 500 block of Olive Road in Trotwood for a water rescue just after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Montgomery County dispatchers told 2 NEWS initial reports were that a 15-year-old male went into the water and did come back up.

Deputy Chief John Porter of the Trotwood Police Department said emergency crews were called on reports of a possible drowning.

Emergency teams from across the area searched the water with rescue boats.

According to officials, the teen may have been in the water up to 90 minutes when they spoke with media Sunday evening.

Porter said there were several people in the area when it happened and helped search for the teen.

Porter also said the lake is an old gravel pit and swimming is not allowed because of the unsafe conditions.

“It’s a very dangerous situation,” said Porter. “We’ve been seeing a lot of kids come out here. We would ask the general public acknowledge there’s no swimming out here because of the dangerousness of it.”

Officials said they believe alcohol may have been a factor. They are waiting until toxicology results are finalized, however.

Trotwood police expect to increase enforcement in the park after Sunday’s drowning.

Anyone caught swimming in Madison Lakes Park will be charged with trespassing.
