Relative charged in connection with child’s death

TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – The half-brother of the 3-year-old girl who died over the weekend in Trotwood has been charged in connection with the death.

Brian Scales is now charged with felony child endangering. He was initially arrested on an unrelated warrant through the courts.

Investigators say the mother of Tristan Carlton came home Saturday afternoon to find the child unresponsive one of the bedrooms of the home on Broad Oak Drive.

She called for help but medics were unable to save the child.

An autopsy has been conducted but investigators are still waiting on reports.

Investigators added that it’s likely more charges will be added in the coming days. Scales remains behind bars in the Montgomery County Jail.
