DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Ken Neufeld, president & CEO of Victoria Theatre Association, said he’s noticing a trend on Broadway. He said lots of shows are based on popular movies or vocal icons. He said he believes that helps bring in more fans and in turn, live theater is doing very well right now.
“I really think we are in a terrific period of absolutely great shows coming out of New York for the road, and our season in ’16-’17 really shows what we have to offer and I think it’s a great mix of some new shows and old shows,” said Neufeld.
This week, The Victoria Theatre Association announced its 2016-2017 season: Jersey Boys, 42nd Street, Motown the Musical, Kinky Boots, Dirty Dancing, and Elf.
Jersey Boys will be in October. 42nd Street will tap dance its way onto the Miami Valley in January, and Dirty Dancing opens in March 2017.
However, you don’t have to wait; great shows are happening now. A Night With Janis Joplin runs March 3-4 at Victoria Theatre. “This was a Broadway show, recreating some of the greatest moments of Janis Joplin’s career,” said Neufeld.
The Bridges of Madison County is also coming up. “Everybody knows the book, and everybody saw the movie,” he said. “This is a little bit of a different take on it, but it’s a terrific show. Really, really romantic.”
Disney’s The Lion King takes the stage in June. “Still lots of tickets available,” said Neufeld.
For tickets, he said make sure you buy them through their website to avoid bogus outlets that way overcharge.
