DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the OVI Task Force are joining forces this weekend to get drunk drivers off the road.
They announced that there will be two OVI checkpoints in the county, both in Jefferson Township on the evening of July 2.
The exact time and locations will not be released until the end of the week.
Since the first of this year, authorities say 9 people have died in alcohol related crashes in Montgomery county.
Authorities say they’ll be on the lookout for signs of drunk driving and drug impairments with the goal of keeping that fatality number low.
“That is the whole goal of the whole OVI task for and that is to be proactive and not reactive. To where somebody has made harm to themselves or caused harm to others by choosing to get behind the wheel of a vehicle by being impaired,” said Montgomery Sheriffs Office, Major Daryl Wilson
Authorities say the reason they didn’t release where the checkpoints will be and when on Wednesday is because they are still setting everything up.
They say they will release those details Thursday morning.
