One person killed in Darke County crash

ARCANUM, Ohio (WDTN) — The Darke County Sheriff’s Office confirms one person is dead after a single-car crash near Arcanum.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Monday on S.R. 49 between Gordon-Landis Road and Hollansburg-Sampson Road.

Sheriff’s deputies say the car was going north on S.R. 49 when it ran off the left side of the road and crashed into a ditch.

The driver of the car was taken by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital. Authorities have not released the driver’s condition.

The passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

S.R. 49 was closed in both directions at the scene of the crash. All lanes reopened just after 7 a.m. Monday.

Authorities are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, or if the people in the car were wearing seatbelts.
