MANSFIELD, Ohio (WCMH) – With less than a week to go, the main focus of the campaigns now is to get out the vote.
Inside a private hanger at the Mansfield Airport, the Vice President reminded several hundred supporters Wednesday that elections are won by those who show up.
Pence tried to rally support for republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Dewine, senate candidate Jim Renacci and congressional candidate Troy Balderson.
DeWine and Balderson, in particular, are in tight races.
Balderson narrowly defeated democrat Danny O’Connor in a closely watched special election in August.
Polls suggest the results could again be very close.
“That special election captured the nation’s attention. The other side said they were going to pull that one out, but Ohio said ‘no’ and that blue wave hit a red wall three months ago and we have to do it again,” Pence said.
Whether or not republicans will carry Richland County is not in question; it’s republican territory. The question is the size of margin and whether or not republicans can win big enough in the rural and suburban areas of the state to overcome the democratic strongholds in the cities.
