Ohio Senate passes one provision of Reagan Tokes Act

The Ohio Senate Wednesday passed one of the provisions of the Reagan Tokes Act.

Senate Bill 201 allows the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections greater discretion to retain violent offenders based on behavior in prison. It also gives incentives for offenders to participate in programming and good behavior during their time in prison.

The bill was sponsored by Kevin Bacon (R-Westerville).

The Senate-passed bill does not address GPS monitoring of released inmates. Those provisions are being considered separately in Senate Bill 202, also introduced by Bacon.

The Ohio House of Representatives will now consider the sentencing bill.
