COLUMBUS – (WLWT) — Smoking with a child in the car could soon mean a $500 fine in Ohio.
A proposed state law would make it illegal to smoke in any vehicle with a passenger who is under 6 years old.
Senate Bill 106, sponsored by Sen. Charleta Tavares, D-Columbus, says first-time offenders would face a $500 fine. For each subsequent violation, the offender could face a $750 fine, the bill states.
The proposed law would make it a primary offense.
Seven other states have similar laws in the books, including Alabama, Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Oregon, Vermont and Virginia.
