DeWine announces plan to allow people to check status of sexual assault kits online

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Thursday, State Attorney General MIke DeWine announced his office is developing a system to increase transparency on the collection and analysis of sexual assault kits.

It will let people who have undergone a sexual assault examination to track the status of the kit online.

“We want to make this as easy as possible for the crime labs, as easy as possible for the sexual assault nurses, for everyone that is going to be doing this. It’s just the next logical step for what we should be doing to help the victims of rape,” said DeWine.

The program, as well as any maintenance and equipment, will be financed through the Victim of Crime Act.
