$275k bond for man accused of raping children in his care

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Franklin County Children Services, along with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services has launched an investigation after an in-home childcare provider is accused of allegedly engaging in sexual acts with children in his care.

69-year-old Terry J McFadden appeared before a Franklin County judge Tuesday.

The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family services says they are reviewing whether McFadden and his wife, who operated the in-home daycare should have required a child care license.

For the first time in his life, McFadden appeared in court with his hands handcuffed and in a green jail uniform.

His face was hardly visible, covered up by his attorney. McFadden has been charged with one count of raping a juvenile.

The graphic details of the case were read out loud in court, days prior Grandview Heights police say McFadden admitted to molesting two children in his care, two young girls, ages four and seven.

Now Franklin County Children Services fears there may be more victims.

The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services tell NBC4 that they have launched an investigation to determine whether McFadden and his wife should have been licensed to run a daycare out of their home.

According to its website, ODJFS is responsible for licensing all child care settings in Ohio.

There are two types of in-home centers. Type a, family child care homes with 7 to 12 children or type b family child care homes with 1 to 6 children, as long as 3 or fewer are under the age of 2. Type b centers do not require a license.

Those who were once under the care of the McFadden’s when they were children say they find it hard to come to terms with the allegations against him.

“He’s just a very nice guy he just when I think of a dad I think of Terry,” said Sran Manirochana.

Police say prior to McFadden’s arrest two other children were removed from the home Monday.

McFadden’s wife is not facing any charges in this case.

A Franklin County judge has set McFadden’s bond a $275,000.

McFadden is to not have any contact with the victims or any minors.
