Officials: Former Playboy model died after injury sustained during chiropractic visit

LOS ANGELES (WCMH) – Los Angeles officials say a former Playboy model may have died as a result of an injury caused by a chiropractor who manipulated her neck.

Katie May died in February, several days after a visit with her chiropractor. The Los Angeles County Coroner said the official cause of death was vertebral artery dissection–a tear in one of the arteries leading to the brain.

TMZ obtained a copy of May’s death certificate, which says she died when blunt force trauma tore her left vertebral artery.

It says the injury was sustained during a “neck manipulation by chiropractor.” Her death is listed as accidental.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed this information with PEOPLE.

May’s father Joe spoke with KABC this week. He said he wants to make sure something similar does not happen to any one else.

“I would tell any guy or girl who goes to a doctor – and I’ve told them – don’t touch my neck,” he said to the station.
