No students hurt after school bus involved in crash

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  A school bus was involved in an accident Wednesday morning.

The crash happened just before 7:00 am Wednesday near the intersection of Catalpa Drive and Shelton Avenue.

There were 12 students from Charity Adams Girls School aboard the bus when the accident happened but none of them were injured.

The school bus driver suffered a wrist injury. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.

Police say a driver in an SUV tried to go around the school bus while it was turning left onto Shelton Avenue from Catalpa Drive. The school bus hit the SUV.

The SUV then went into a yard and hit a nearby house causing minor damage to the building. The driver told police he thought he was allowed to do so. The driver of the SUV was not hurt, but did take their child to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury.

Police say the driver of the SUV will likely be cited.

A second school bus was sent to transfer the students and continue to school. A DPS spokesperson says the system followed procedure by notifying Charity Adams Girls School and the parents of the children on the bus.

The intersection was closed for a time while crews worked to remove the bus and SUV. The roads are back open now.
