National Night Out events planned across Miami Valley

(WDTN) – Police departments and communities across the country will celebrate “National Night Out” on Tuesday.

The annual event is designed to build community spirit, boost crime prevention and strengthen police-community relations.

Many people associate National Night Out with leaving a porch light on, but the national program has grown to include a variety of community events providing opportunities for residents, law enforcement and local government leaders to interact.

This is the 33rd year for “National Night Out”. More than 38 million people in more than 16,000 communities in the U.S., Canada and military bases worldwide took part in the event last year. A list of local events is listed below.DAYTON

The Dayton Police Department will lead the neighborhood tour caravan, which will make stops at six National Night Out community celebrations:

4:50 p.m. – Oregon District, Newcom Park

5:25 p.m. – Dayton VA Medical Center, Kentucky Avenue Plaza

5:55 p.m. – Residence Park, West Second Street at Elmhurst Avenue

6:25 p.m. – Westwood School, 2805 Oakridge Dr.

7:00 p.m. – Old North Dayton/Taste of Old North Dayton, Stuart-Patterson Park, Leo St. at Baltimore Avenue

7:35 p.m. – East End Community Center, 624 Xenia Ave.RIVERSIDE

The Riverside Police Department will be holding a National Night Out event in the parking lot of the new City Hall building located at 5200 Springfield St. from 6-8 p.m. There will be free hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages. There will also be free Kona ice provided. We will have face painting, a clown, and a dunk tank. Police and fire vehicles will be on display. An identa-kid booth will be set up. The Stebbins High School Pep Band will be performing. Many prize giveaways are planned. including bicycles and a Ring home security device.TROTWOOD

Trotwood’s National Night Out event is being held in the Home Depot parking lot from 5-8 p.m.MORAINE

Moraine Police will host a National Night Out event, beginning at 6 p.m. at Wax Park.MIAMI TOWNSHIP BRANCH LIBRARY

The Miami Township Branch of the Dayton Metro Library joins with the Miami Township Police and Fire Departments for this national community-building campaign. There will be games and giveaways for all ages, plus police and fire vehicles children can explore up close. Food will be provided by Skyline Chili. All activities are free at the Library, located at 2718 Lyons Road.

The Middletown Division of Police will take part in National Night Out from 5-9 p.m. at 2201 South Breiel Boulevard, the location of Lefferson Park and Elley’s Hope Playground at Berachah Church. It allows families and the community to come together to learn more about crime prevention, meet members of local law enforcement, enjoy free family activities and food, see K9 demonstrations, and more.

Admission and parking for National Night Out are both free. On-site, there will be live music, food and drink, booths featuring local organizations, K9 and SRT demonstrations, face painting, kids’ fingerprinting, military equipment, coney-eating contests, and more.

Middletown’s National Night Out is sponsored by the Middletown Division of Police and Gold Star Chili.CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP

Neighborhoods throughout Clearcreek Township are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “33rd Annual National Night Out”, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by Clearcreek Township Police Department.

From 5 to 9 P.M., residents in neighborhoods throughout Clearcreek Township and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. The Clearcreek Township community will be invited to attend a free event held at the Patricia Allyn Park on State Route 48. Scheduled events will include: safety stations, crashed car display, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Warren County SWAT, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Clearcreek Fire Department with an extrication exercise, emergency services helicopter landing, canine demonstrations, bounces, music, and free food.KETTERING

The Kettering Police Department is inviting the public to attend their National Night Out event at Town and Country Shopping Center, on August 2nd, from 6pm-8pm; The event will be held in the parking lot.

There will be a cookout, games, crime prevention displays, a dunk tank, raffles and police personnel on hand to interact with the community. Our K9’s and their handlers will be there as will some of the Kettering Regional SWAT Team members.WEST CARROLLTON

West Carrollton’s National Night Out event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Park Pool, 1226 S. Elm St. Admission is free and open to the public.

Participants can meet local police officers and play games. The event will also feature: free snacks, demonstrations by Miami Valley Care Flight and West Carrollton Fire Department, as well as displays by local businesses.

PIQUA

The Piqua Police Department, in cooperation with the PROTECT Piqua Board of Trustees, is once again participating in numerous block parties across the city during National Night Out, from 6pm to 8pm.

Neighborhoods participating can expect visits from police and fire.TROY

Troy’s National Night Out event has been canceled because the city was unable to pull together resources and volunteers necessary to host it, according to the Troy Daily News.
