Mother, daughter hospitalized following Riverside house fire

News

RIVERSIDE, Ohio (WDTN) — A mother and daughter have been taken to area hospitals following a house fire.

Riverside fire crews responded to the 5100 block of Sweetwater Dr. at around 2:10 Friday morning.

When they arrived they found flames shooting out the back-end of the home.

Crews also found two occupants outside of the home suffering from injuries.

Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Shon Smith says they received an initial call that a mother and daughter might have been trying to put the fire out themselves.

The 36 year old mother was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. Fire officials on-scene say she is in critical condition.

Her six year old daughter was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital for minor injuries.

An exact cause hasn’t been given. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate.

Mad Rivers schools posted on their Facebook page that the 6-year-old is a kindergartner at Brantwood, and today is her birthday.

They continue to write:

In an effort to bring a little cheer to this girl and her family we are accepting monetary donations and birthday gifts for her. She wears a size 7/8. Donations will be accepted at 801 Old Harshman Rd. in Riverside through Monday.
