Morning blaze sends firefighter to hospital

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  A Dayton firefighter was sent to the hospital Friday morning with minor burns from a fire on Salem Avenue.

The call for help came in around 6:00 Friday morning in the 2300 block of Salem Avenue.

When crews arrived at the vacant duplex, Dayton Fire Department Chief Cheryl Clark tells 2 NEWS there were flames coming from a corner of the building. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

One firefighter was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with what Clark says was a minor burn injury. The firefighter was treated and released from the hospital with what Dayton FIre Officials say was a very minor burn to his lower leg.. He will be on restricted duty for a few days but is back at work and okay.

Emergency crews closed Salem Avenue at Elsmere Street while they deal with this vacant house fire.

The cause of the fire is stil under investigation. Clark says someone was driving  by on Salem Avenue and called the fire in.
