Miami Valley filmmakers win big at Sundance Film Festival

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  Some Miami Valley residents were recently in the spotlight at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

Filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar were there for the premiere of their new documentary, “American Factory.” The film is a follow-up to their Oscar-nominated film “The Last Truck,” which is about the closure of the GM plant in Moraine.

The new documentary focuses on how Fuyao brought the plant back to life and the fight to make it a union facility.

The filmmakers picked up the award for U.S. Documentary Directing.

Bognar joined 2 NEWS Tuesday to discuss the film, his experiences at Sundance, and a new deal in the works with Netflix.
