MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) – Student drone pilots showed off their skills Monday at Dayton Christian School.
The school held a showcase for its new STEM class about drones. Students learn how to fly drones, and even get a chance to build one in class. The class is designed to give students hands on experience starting at the middle school level.
“Its like a light bulb that goes off and they think, ‘I could be an engineer,” said instructor Sue Norrod. “Its so important to reach them at the 7th and 8th grade level because their GPA really effects what college they get into and they’re determined to get good grades once they see that this is something that they want to major in and they would like to do.”
The students get a chance to work with many guest including one of the two companies approved to fly drones commercially in the Miami Valley.
