Local News

XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – The Xenia Police Division plans to conduct a free seminar on Ohio’s firearm and self-defense laws this Thursday.

“This area of Ohio law has changed several times in the last ten years,” officials say. “This would be a great time to brush up on your understanding of these laws.”

Some topics of discussion include:

  • Laws of self-defense
  • Open Carry of firearms throughout the State
  • Laws pertaining to Carrying Concealed Weapons
  • Interacting with the Police while legally armed
  • How to legally transport firearms in your vehicle
  • Difference between federal and state laws
  • Laws pertaining to Dangerous Ordnance and more

The information will be presented by Xenia Police Division Sergeant Lon Etchison. He is a certified Legal Instructor through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, which allows him to teach throughout the state in Basic Police Academies. He is currently an instructor for the Greene County Career Center’s Criminal Justice Academy and also conducts Use of Force training and Legal Updates for the Xenia Police Division.

The seminar starts at 6:30 pm and will last between two and three hours.

If you are interested in attending, email education@ci.xenia.oh.us. If registering for more than one person, include the names and email addresses of everyone who will attend.

Officials also note that this seminar does not meet the training requirements needed to obtain a Concealed Handgun License.
