DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The woman who is charged with six counts of murder, among other charges, for allegedly causing an I-75 crash in March of 2019 that killed a family from Mason was found competent to stand trial.
In a hearing Wednesday, a judge reviewed a mental competency evaluation and determined that Abby Michaels is competent to stand trial for the alleged murder of Timmy Thompson, 51, his wife Karen, 50, and their 10-year-old daughter.
Michaels also faces three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of OVI. Michaels is accused of intentionally driving the wrong-way on I-75 in Moraine and crashing into a car, killing the family of three on St. Patrick’s Day.
In August, Michaels changed her plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of insanity. Her next court date is scheduled for Feb. 28 at 9 am.
