West Carrollton police officer shot in leg by accidental discharge

FRANKLIN, Ohio (WDTN) – A West Carrollton police officer was shot in the leg by an accidental discharge of his weapon Friday.

West Carrollton Police were at a Franklin shooting range for annual qualifying Friday when the incident happened around 11:00 am.

West Carrollton Police Deputy Chief David Wessling said Friday the officer involved was hit in the leg and was taken to Kettering Medical Center. He is expected to recover but little else was known at the time.

Franklin Police said in a statement that the officer shot himself in the leg when holstering his weapon.

Wessling said of the officer involved, “He was proficient, sometimes incidents happen and this is an unfortunate thing.”
