DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The body of a missing 17-year-old was recovered at Madison Lakes Park on Monday morning.
That teen and other young adults were swimming on Sunday before he went under water and never came back up. The 911 call that led police to the scene was released Monday.
A woman in the area called 911 after she saw a stranger go under, and in the call, she told dispatchers she didn’t see him come up, so all she could do was wait for police to come and help. That 911 call lasted 11 minutes, as the woman waited for officers to arrive.
When police and fire crews got to the scene Sunday afternoon, they searched for hours but they were unable to find the teen.
They resumed their search Monday before a deep dive team was sent to the exact location in the lake where witnesses say he went under. The teen’s body was recovered Monday morning around 10:50 a.m.
Now, fire crews are urging people to only use to the lake to fish, and not for any other water activities like swimming.
