SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Police and Fire investigators are looking into a suspicious fire in Springfield.
The fire happened Thursday morning in the 400 block of Dayton Avenue in Springfield. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 7:30 am.
The incident was captured on security video.
An unknown person was seen forcing their way into a trailer and moments later, coming out of the trailer as flames erupted in the doorway. The person was then seen running from the fire.
The owner of the trailer, Damaras Cavitt, told 2 NEWS she saw the person going into the trailer carrying a gas can. She then saw the person come out and run away while on fire.
“I don’t know who would do this to me. I don’t event know who the person is,” said Cavitt.
Police have not said anything about the extent of the injuries or the identity of the person seen in the video.
Cavitt told 2 NEWS the person left a cell phone, jacket and other items at the scene.
“I went outside to meet them with my friend. Everything happened so quick. By the time I got out with my piece, they were already engulfed in flames and gone,” said Cavitt.
The trailer, according to Cavitt, was in the process of being converted into a food truck. The extent of the damage is not yet known but Cavitt said she will now have to start over. She was planning on calling her truck “Mrs D’s Smack Shack.”
“All I have now is like a burnt shell,” said Cavitt.
The Springfield Fire Marshal is handling the investigation.
Cavitt did have send a message to the person or people responsible.
“Lord have mercy on your soul. I hope it was worth it,” said Cavitt.
