WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – The Washington Township Recreation Department is offering lifeguard training to help prepare their pool for the busy summer season.

Participants who pass the training, offered March 23 – 30, will receive certification qualifying them to work as a lifeguard for two years.

The five-day class includes a mandatory pre-skills test on March 23 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and 28 hours of instruction from 3:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. from March 25 – 29 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 30.

Participants must be at least 15 years old.

Those who can pass two written exams and in-water final skills scenarios will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.

At the March 23 pre-skills test, participants will be required to pass three prerequisites: swim 300 yards, tread water for two minutes using only legs, and complete a timed event to retrieve a 10-pound object at a depth of seven to ten feet.

Participants who do not pass will be issued a refund, minus the $15 testing fee.
